LONG GONE #4
Fourth issue in my solo-anthology series of short stories. Long Gone marches on!
“From the zenith of freaked-out insanity within the melted mind of Samuel Benson come five new tickets to otherworldly dimensions, sold straight to the reader under the benign guise of “comic book stories.” With Long Gone issue 4, Benson once again pulls his audience into twisted new planes of reality bursting at the seems with illustrative detail that is somehow crisp and psychedelic, fuzzed out and sharp all at once. But that paradox is probably the least tripped-out thing going on in these pages. Alien abduction, toad smoking, existential vampires, and cake await those who dare gaze into this handcrafted abyss.
Humans have been riding the old brain to page to brain pipeline of ideas for centuries now, but issue four of Long Gone makes me wonder if we shouldn’t take a step back and re-evaluate that whole process, and indeed, our entire sphere of existence itself. I am left with the odd impression that the characters in these stories could pick up any comic book that exists in their world and be reading paneled stories about my life or yours. Sometimes when you think you’re looking at a portal, you’re really looking at a mirror.”
